The Cougars boys golf team has been busy on the greens, participating in three tournaments last week.
On Aug. 12, Niwot's top players competed in the Roosevelt Invite at the Fox Hill Club in Longmont, where the team secured a third-place finish out of twenty-seven teams. Timnath High School took first with a score of 236, and Erie High School followed in second with 238. Niwot ended just behind with a team score of 242.
Senior Drew Stapp delivered a strong performance, finishing fourth overall with a 77. Junior Charlie Budacz tied for 14th, with a score of 81, while junior Jackson Sessa finished with an 84 and senior Jagger Kilpatrick finished with an 86.
Thirty-two miles north on Aug. 12, five other Cougars competed in the 52nd Annual Spartan Invite at the Highland Hills Golf Course in Greeley. Against a field of twenty-two teams, Niwot finished in seventh place with a team score of 343. Columbine High School claimed the top spot with 323, followed by Windsor High School and Riverdale Ridge High School.
Junior Moses Lance led Niwot's efforts with a standout performance, finishing fifth overall with a score of 78. Fellow junior Will Jones placed 23rd with an 87, with Joe Weimer, another junior, finishing with an 88. Freshman Liam Petersen ended the day with a score of 90, and sophomore Jake Bastow rounded out the team with a 97.
On Aug. 13, four Cougars participated in the 8th Annual Eagle Classic at the Broadlands Golf Course, a two-man best ball tournament that featured seventy-eight teams.
One of Niwot's pairs, sophomores Owen Lipinski and Cooper Leap, finished tied for 59th place with a score of 82. Lipinski finished the day with an 86, and Leap finished with a 91. Meanwhile, the other Niwot pair, sophomores Hogan Reester and Loch Sabanosh, tied three teams for 71st with a score of 91.
This week, the Cougars are set for a busy stretch as they continue their competitive season. On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the team participated in the Centaurus League Event at the Indian Peaks Golf Course. The following day, Aug. 21, they will head to the Riverdale Ridge Golf Course for the Horizon Annual Scramble.
The week wraps up with a third tournament at the Flatirons Golf Course on Aug. 23. These upcoming events will provide the Cougars with more opportunities to sharpen their skills and keep momentum on the fairway as they drive towards a successful season.
