Lively line dances bring new energy to Dancing Under the Stars

On Friday, Aug. 23, Dancing Under the Stars featured a lively blend of waltz, folk, and contra dancing, bringing a fresh dynamic to Niwot's beloved event. The evening was accompanied by live music from keyboardist Teri Rasmusson and fiddler Royston Hunget, whose harmonious tunes set the perfect mood for the traditional dances. Earlier in the season, Rasmusson, a Niwot resident, performed with violinist Julia Hays on July 12.

Adding to the energy was Tina Fields, who called the dances and guided the crowd through line and circle dances, creating an atmosphere the event had not seen this season. The structured group dances pushed attendees to interact and dance with everyone on the floor, making it a truly sociable experience.

The dance instruction was led primarily by Tom Masterson, one of the event's organizers, who skillfully introduced participants to the night's featured styles. His approachable teaching style, paired with Fields' calling, created an inclusive atmosphere that welcomed first-time and seasoned dancers of all ages alike.

With no wind or rain in sight, attendees enjoyed a comfortable night of dancing. As the sun set, the sky lit up in vibrant colors, offering a breathtaking view that added to the charm of the event and set the scene for a memorable night.

Friday, August 30 will feature the penultimate evening of salsa dancing led by Marcela Lay with music provided by Joseph Snowhawk from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Cottonwood Square

The event is funded by the Niwot LID, and sponsored by the Niwot Business Association, and Cottonwood Square, as well as local business sponsors Porchfront Homes, DRF Real Estate, Big Orange Square, Raza Fresa, Una Vida, and the Niwot Tavern.
