All Local, All The Time
The House Blend Band will perform its last concert of the summer on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Second Avenue, in front of Old Oak Coffeehouse. Band leader and keyboardist Michael Tomich said the band will then take a "long winter's nap."
Tomich, who co-owns the coffeehouse with violinist Patty Machin, said, “I think my manager has one more big batch of spaghetti sauce in her before she needs a break as well.”
“The Niwot Gig will also be joining us again during our intermission,” he said. “We also love having their energy at the events. This concert's ‘barista in the band’ is Noah Smith, who will be singing ‘Bennie and the Jets.’ Usually when we sing that song as a band, I take the regular vocal, but, because the high falsetto part is not in my falsetto range, my daughter, Paris, takes that part. Noah is able to hit both parts. He will be singing midway through the second set.”
Tomich is proud of the sheer number of different artists the band covers, and for this concert, the band will cover Elton John, The Spinners, Chicago, KD Lang, Neil Young, America, The Revivalists, Earth Wind and Fire, Steve Windwood, KC and the Sunshine Band, Paul McCartney, Smokey Robinson, The Commodores, The Box Tops, Brandi Carlile, Oliva Newton-John and John Travolta, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger, Aretha Franklin, ELO, Ace, Sam and Dave, The Blues Brothers, Johnny Nash, and The O'Jays.
