Dancing Under the Stars twirls into fall

The penultimate Dancing Under the Stars swung into action Friday, Sept. 13, in Cottonwood Square. Despite Niwot High School homecoming festivities happening at the same time, the event brought together a large crowd of dancers from all over Boulder County who whirled under the stars and glittering string lights.

Dancing Under the Stars organizer Catherine McHale said at the beginning of the evening, "It's going to be a good party tonight since it is the last salsa night of the season. It's always energetic as everyone comes to celebrate the end of the season."

Joseph and Kasia Snowhawk from the Boulder Dance Coalition at the Avalon Ballroom in Boulder taught the first hour of free salsa classes. Both also have been teaching dance for over 18 years including ballroom dancing, salsa rueda, bachata, and West Coast swing.

Joseph Snowhawk also manned the DJ booth for the night during the second half of dancing.

Kasia Snowhawk suggested after Dancing Under the Stars ends for the season, participants continue to dance all winter. "My advice is to have fun, practice, and go to classes," Kasia said, "Also, take classes from different instructors and see who works best for you!"

Next Friday, Sept. 20, will be the finale for Dancing Under the Stars series for the year. The event will end with a swing night, one of the most popular dancing nights in the series from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Cottonwood Square.
