The Niwot High School boys golf team continued its season with two challenging tournaments during weeks five and six, facing stiff competition from some of the top teams in their league.
On Sept. 5, the Cougars competed in the Frederick Classic at the Coyote Creek Golf Course. Despite strong performances from several golfers, Niwot finished fourth overall with a team score of 301. Fairview High School took first place with a score of 284, Monarch High School placed second at 292, and Erie High School came in third with 293.
Senior Drew Stapp led the Cougars, finishing 16th overall with a score of 74. Juniors Jackson Sessa and Moses Lance shot 75, tying for 20th place. Senior Jagger Kilpatrick and junior Charlie Budacz rounded out the scorecard, each shooting 77 to tie for 30th place.
The following week, on Sept. 10, Niwot participated in the Granite Peaks League Championship at the Coal Creek Golf Course. This time, the Cougars finished in eleventh place with a team score of 322. Monarch claimed first place with a score of 291, followed closely by Erie with 292, and Fairview in third with 306.
Lance led Niwot with a score of 79, placing him 30th overall. Budacz followed closely behind with an 80, finishing in 35th place. Stapp shot an 81 to take 45th place, while Kilpatrick and Sessa both shot 82, tying for 52nd place.
A notable performance came from JV golfer junior Will Jones, who finished 35th overall with a score of 80, showcasing his potential for future tournaments.
As the Cougars look ahead, they will be preparing for the Longmont Invitational on Sept. 17 at Twin Peaks Golf Course and the Fort Morgan Invitational on Sept. 19 at the Quail Dunes Golf Course. With only a few weeks remaining before the regional tournament on Oct. 1, the team is focused on finishing the season strong.
