Niwot High School Clubs - Spotlight on Film Club

Niwot High School is host to over 60 student-run clubs, and one stand-out is the Film Club.

Niwot High School's Film Club creates a short film throughout the school year. To begin, they start with a team effort to come up with a plot and characters, and eventually move on to script writing. From there, pre-production jobs are assigned and executed, including creating prop lists, shot lists, costuming plans, and casting. Once the group finalizes the details, they begin filming in the late fall and early winter months.

Film Club has been active at NHS for three years. Throughout those three years, there have been successes and failures, which have led to this year'+s leadership team working hard to use their past experiences as a tool to grow. The leadership team is made up of Elliot DeBusk (President), Audrey Owen, Pali Sauer, James Miller, Kennah Brackett, Maddox Wilson, Sophie Alizadeh, and Ali Kraut. From videography to acting, the wide range of skills that team members possess is impressive.

Film Club has already come up with a plot for a short film for this year. The film will be in the popular horror comedy genre, and the members are already very excited to share it with the public at the end of the year. Once the film is complete, there will be a showcase for Film Club members, friends, and family.

Film Club also hosts various workshops throughout the year to introduce members to different roles within filmmaking, such as writing, editing, and directing.

Whether you're a beginner or an expert, Film Club is for all students. The team strives to include all types of people in the group. President DeBusk said, "We'd love to have everyone that's interested in making films join."

DeBusk said, "This club is incredibly important to me because it's a community of filmmakers that inspire me to create. It's a lot of fun to make films with your friends and be able to see your ideas come to life."
