All Local, All The Time
Niwot's new ice cream shop, Love Ice Cream, held its Grand Opening on Sept. 21. The first 100 lucky customers received a complimentary scoop of ice cream of their choice from the new family-owned venture.
The Grand Opening extended out into the parking lot in front of Love Ice Cream, located at 240 Second Avenue in the space formerly occupied by Seven Wealth.
Cute flower-bedecked tables outside of the ice cream shop and a festoon of colorful, bubble-like balloons climbing the building like ivy invited customers to the grand opening. The shop itself was packed, with more ice cream lovers outside at the tables enjoying the nice fall weather.
"We live in Niwot, and we have five children, two at Niwot High School and one that goes to Niwot Elementary School," co-owner Katy Love said. "We wanted to give back to the community and do something that our kids would be really excited about and would be in their own town. You can't have a bad day when talking about ice cream." Love and her husband, Vince Love, co-own the shop.
The ice cream shop also released its opening menu of ice cream flavors including Bavarian cream, brown sugar cinnamon, brown sugar pecan, bubble gum, coconut, cookies & cream, cookie dough, cookies 3 ways, salty dog chocolate, strawberry, s'mores, and Tahitian vanilla. For some of the ice creams, the shop has options for gluten free, dairy free, or both. It also offers sherbet and pomegranate sorbet.
Love Ice Cream is proud to offer potentially the largest ice cream sundae in Colorado, called "The Fourteener." The sundae is 14 scoops of ice cream drowned in chocolate sauce, covered with mountains of whipped cream, and topped with colorful sprinkles.
Love's Ice Cream also intends to support several non-profit organizations by donating some of its Thursday proceeds to its featured charity of the month. The charity program will be starting in October.
Katy Love explained, "We're looking at The Longmont Humane Society to be our first beneficiary, and in November, we've already locked in There With Care, which is an amazing non-profit in the area that gives back to children and families facing critical illness."
Love Ice Cream will be open seven days a week, weekdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 9 p.m. and Sundays noon to 8 p.m. The shop might have different hours next summer as the weather heats up.
Katy Love said the shop plans to get involved in the community by participating in events around town, including sponsoring the Niwot High School Boosters and supporting the Great Pumpkin Party.
