Niwot JV golf secures first place at home tournament

The Niwot High School junior varsity golf team showcased its depth and skill at the Niwot Junior Varsity Event, held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont. The Cougars had four teams competing in a field of 30 teams.

Niwot's top team took home the victory with a combined score of 208, beating out Northridge High School, which finished second with a score of 217, and Timnath High School, who came in third with a score of 227. The Cougars' other three teams placed sixth (237), twelfth (249), and eighteenth (260), highlighting the squad's depth and talent across the board. With such strong performances in the JV tournament, the team's future looks bright as these players continue to develop and push for varsity spots in the coming seasons.

Junior Jackson Sessa led the way for Niwot, carding a stellar round of 65, five under par, to claim second place overall. Sessa will also be competing in the Regional Tournament on Oct. 1 at the Foothills Golf Course, alongside fellow junior Moses Lance, and seniors Drew Stapp and Jagger Kilpatrick.

Not far behind Sessa was junior Charlie Budacz, who posted an even-par 70 to take third place. Budacz was a strong player on the Niwot varsity team this season and is expected to be a leader next year. Junior Joe Weimer turned in a solid performance as well, finishing fourth overall with a score of 72.

Also performing well were Lance, who finished fifth with a score of 73, and junior Will Jones who placed seventh with a 74. Sophomore Jake Bastow, freshman Liam Peterson, and junior Ryan Guglielmi all tied for twenty-third place with matching scores of 79, rounding out a successful day for the Cougars.

With the season concluding, Niwot is now focused on the postseason with the Regional Tournament on Oct. 1. With key players Stapp, Sessa, Kilpatrick, and Lance leading the way, the Cougars are poised for a strong postseason run.
