The Niwot High School football team faced a challenging night on Thursday, Oct. 3, as they suffered a 50-0 loss to Evergreen High School. The away game marked Niwot’s worst defeat of the season, bringing their record to 0-5.
From the start, Evergreen dominated the field with strong offensive and defensive play. Niwot struggled to gain any traction, facing difficulty on both sides of the ball. Despite their best efforts, the Cougars were unable to score, resulting in a lopsided final score that reflected Evergreen’s control over the game.
This loss adds to what has already been a tough season for Niwot. Still in search of their first win, the Cougars are now facing an uphill battle with five games remaining. Head Coach Nik Blume acknowledged the tough position they are in but emphasized that the team’s focus remains on growth and development.
“We continue through some painful growth right now as a young team,” Blume said. “The goal right now is to continue to educate some of the new older players that joined this season, find a way offensively to get the ball in the hands of our best weapons, and focus on our weight room growth.”
The road does not get any easier for Niwot. They are set to face the Windsor High School Wizards on Thursday, Oct. 10. Windsor, currently sitting at 4-1, is riding a four-game win streak and has proven to be a formidable opponent in the league. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Everly-Montgomery Field in Longmont.
“Windsor and Mead still loom ahead and there are no slouches in the rest of our league,” Blume added. “We look forward to a competitive second half of the season.”
The Niwot Cougars need to find their footing quickly if they hope to keep up with a surging Windsor team. With the support of their home crowd, band, and student section, they will look to put the recent defeat behind them and make strides towards a more competitive finish to the season.
