Niwot Youth Sports flag football heats up in mid-season tournament

With a record number of participants this season, the Niwot Youth Sports (NYS) NFL flag football season has reached the halfway mark.

In an exciting break from regular season play, NYS flag football teams recently faced off against the Gridiron league in a thrilling mid-season tournament. The event showcased the young athletes' skills and competitive spirit before they return to their regular season play.

One of the tournament's most memorable matchups came in the Varsity division (3rd and 4th grade) between the Chiefs and the Commanders.

The two teams engaged in a back and forth battle that couldn't be settled in regulation time.

As the game went into overtime, spectators were on the edge of their seats. In the end, the Commanders emerged victorious, securing their spot in the championship.

Another closely contested game saw the Division 1 (5th and 6th grade) Raiders squaring off against the Rams.

Both teams fought hard, keeping the score tight throughout the game. In the final moments, the Raiders managed to pull ahead, clinching their victory and advancing to the championship round.

The standout performance of the tournament came from the Patriots, who showed exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the event. They went undefeated and claimed the tournament championship for Division 1.

With a few short weeks left in the season, the Super Bowl Championship game will be held on Oct. 27 at Niwot High School, where two teams in each division will face off for first place.

As flag football nears the end of the season, NYS has opened registration for recreational youth basketball for the 2025 season on a first come first serve basis, with spots limited to 200 participants.

NYS has also announced that they will be partnering with Rocky Mountain Christian Church (RMCC) youth basketball program for the upcoming season.

RMCC is hosting all evaluations this year due to requirements for gym space and Rocky's unique and exciting evaluation process. Evaluations will run through Nov. 2, practices will begin Jan. 6, and games will occur every Saturday from Jan. 11 - Mar. 1. Games will be held at RMCC Niwot or RMCC Frederick facilities.
