All Local, All The Time

Niwot High School Clubs - Spotlight on Key Club

Niwot High School is host to over 60 student-run clubs, and one stand-out is the Key Club.

Key Club is one of the many high school level branches of Kiwanis, an international club which has a mission to "improve the world one child and one community at a time." Key Club focuses on aiding local communities and volunteering in various ways. Throughout the year, Key Club fundraises, hosts various donation drives, and promotes unity among students to help others.

With help from teacher-facilitator Stephen Mills, Key Club has a strong group of student leaders. The leadership team consists of JoDe Zorgdrager (President), Alexander Rutt (President), Grace Prast (Vice President), Sanjana Kaushik (Secretary), William Kolanda (Treasurer), Sage Bromberg (Editor/Social Media Manager), Will Schrock, Karlien Dang-Lee, and Maddie Myers (Project Managers).

Key Club has been planning its annual haunted house held at 291 Second Avenue, the former feed store building. Key Club organizes, decorates, and runs a haunted house during Niwot's Great Pumpkin Party on Oct. 26. Over the next two weeks, Key Club members will spend their evenings decorating with the hope of further involving the High School within the community.

Despite being geared towards children, the haunted house appeals to all ages. Last year, Key Club impressed weary parents who simply came to hold their children's hand throughout the haunt.

The doors to the haunted house will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 26. Key Club's leadership team hopes to see both new and old faces at the event, and they cannot wait to share their newest project and bring joy to the community.

Zorgdrager responded enthusiastically when asked about her motivations to lead the group. She said, "Key Club is a way to connect with my peers, and benefit my community! I love being able to put on fun projects for not only our members, but nearby community members as well."
