NHS cross country sweeps again

Niwot High School's cross country teams dominated the Granite Peaks League Championship on Friday, Oct. 11, with both the boys and girls racing to decisive team titles.

The varsity boys swept the top five positions, with junior Rocco Culpepper taking first place in 15:23.65, closely followed by juniors Hunter Robbie (15:26.45) and Ryder Keeton (15:28.92). Senior Keegan Geldean finished fourth in 15:32.09, and senior Cole Mazurana rounded out the top five with a time of 15:34.38.

Nine of the Cougars finished in the top ten and all ten of them finished in the top twenty. The team took the first-place title with an average time of 15:29. Their nearest competitor, Erie High School, finished second with a 16:32 average time, with Fairview High School rounding out the top three.

Niwot's boys JV team was equally dominant, covering the first sixteen places in the race. With 18 of the top 25 runners representing the Cougars, the team secured a first-place finish in the JV competition with an impressive average time of 16:07.

Junior Anna Prok led the way for the varsity girls team with a commanding first-place finish, crossing the line in 17:44.20. Sophomore Elise Hagen finished third in 18:07.45, and sophomore Scarlett Parks placed eleventh with a time of 19:01.76. Senior Eleanor Ottem and sophomore Eloise Boyd rounded out Niwot's scoring in 14th and 17th places, respectively. The team walked away with a first-place finish and an average time of 18:39. Fairview High School finished second, while Holy Family High School took third.

The JV girls also put up a strong performance, finishing second with a 21:18 average time, behind Fairview High School and ahead of Monarch High School.

Niwot's cross country teams are poised to continue their success as they move into the final stretch of the season. The upcoming Class 5A Region 3 Championships on Oct. 24, followed by the Class 5A State Championships on Nov. 2, and the Nike Cross Nationals at the end of November, will be critical races for both teams.
