Keep it alive and help it thrive

For the past two years, the Left Hand Valley Courier found a way to survive, barely, by borrowing money to pay the bills, with several key staff members deferring any compensation for 10-hour-plus work weeks.

In an era of news deserts in Colorado and across the nation—areas without any local newspapers—newspapers must adapt, or die.

Like other small businesses struggling to survive, the Courier owners decided to create a non-profit educational corporation, and donated the newspaper to the non-profit.

The transfer took effect January 1, 2024, and as of October 11, 2024, the IRS has recognized the Left Hand Valley Courier as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Donations to the Courier are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donations can be mailed to:

For 25 years, the Courier never asked its readers for financial support as advertising revenue paid the bills. When COVID-19 came along, the Courier asked readers for online subscriptions. But with advertising revenues continuing to drop, it is not enough.

Now, readers are able to support the Courier with tax-deductible donations. Community donations, along with grants, advertising revenue and online subscriptions, can allow the Courier to continue to bring you important news of the community. With public support, the Courier can not only survive, but thrive.

The financial goal is ambitious - $250,000 would allow the Courier to do everything we have only been able to dream of, from increasing the number of print editions to adding columns and features, from using higher quality newsprint to establishing paid internships, from adding new staff to fairly compensating staff members.

Local newspapers in other areas of the state have closed, resulting in no local newspaper for miles. Don’t let that happen in Niwot.

Please consider donating to the Courier to keep local journalism alive and thriving in your community.

Thank you for your support!
