The Rotary Club of Niwot awards thousands of dollars in community grants

In a significant show of community support, the Rotary Club of Niwot demonstrated its commitment to diverse community causes through grants totaling $16,550 across thirteen organizations.

The club, which began its journey in 2008, has grown into a vibrant community of approximately 40 members united by their commitment to service and fellowship. According to Deborah Fowler, who joined the organization in 2009, the twice-yearly grant program reflects the club's dedication to making a meaningful impact in various service areas. Fowler said the district Rotary office will match the grants with an additional $6,000.

The grant program focuses on critical areas, including basic education and literacy, community economic development, disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, and water and sanitation.

The largest grants of $2,000 each were awarded to three recipients: the Rotary Club's Ad Hoc Domestic Violence Committee, supporting victims of domestic violence; the Career Elevation and Technology Center, helping individuals advance their professional skills; and the Rotary Club of Niwot Education, furthering educational initiatives.

Several cultural and community service organizations received substantial support, including the Boulder Symphony Academy/Jared Foundation ($1,650), the Firehouse Art Center ($1,500), and Our Center ($1,400). The club also maintained its international focus through grants to the Exchange Student Program ($1,000), Colorado Friendship ($1,000), and Polio Plus ($700), the latter supporting Rotary's global effort to eradicate polio.

Local community support was evident in grants to Longmont Meals on Wheels ($1,000), providing nutrition to homebound individuals, and the Veterans Community Project ($1,000), assisting former service members. The Women's International Niwot Club (WINC) received $1,000 to support their initiatives, while Fresh Water Watch received $300 for their environmental monitoring efforts.

Since its inception, the Rotary Club of Niwot has been a cornerstone of community service, particularly focusing on student support, volunteer work with local non-profits, and community project assistance. The organization's twice-yearly grant program exemplifies their ongoing commitment to fostering positive change in both local and international communities.

The success of these grant programs demonstrates how a relatively small group of dedicated individuals can make a substantial impact on their community. The Rotary Club of Niwot continues to welcome new members who share their passion for service and friendship, carrying forward their mission of community support and development.

For organizations interested in future grant opportunities, applications are reviewed twice per year by the Rotary Club board of directors. Information about the next grant cycle can be obtained through the Rotary Club of Niwot, by filling out a Request for Funds Application.
