All Local, All The Time
The Niwot Community Association’s board of directors held its monthly meeting on Nov. 13 at the newly named Niwot Hall. The agenda consisted of a financial report update from the NCA Treasurer, Terry Larsen, the President’s report from David Limbach, and area reports from the area representatives.
The directors then addressed the 2024 goals, which were to monitor land use, incorporate a wildfire protection plan, and create and engage on social media platforms.
The NCA also hosted Jim Dorvee, Niwot Hall President, as a guest speaker to provide updates regarding the new improvements to the current building and landscaping.
Larsen's financial assessment was that all 2024 funding has been used similarly to the budget from 2023 with projects such as NCA Clean-Up Day, 4th of July, the Slepicka Tractor Show, and underpass mural maintenance.
Limbach reported an upcoming meeting has been scheduled with Niwot High School regarding plans to soften the visual impact of the new scoreboard and to install bleachers and a press box which will occur on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. at Niwot High School. This meeting will be between Brian Lamer, Assistant Superintendent of Operations of St. Vrain Valley Schools, Eric Rauschkolb, Niwot High School Principal, and invited members of the NCA.
On Dec. 6, guest speaker Ashley Partin will be speaking about a no-cost community program to help prevent hospitalization and incarceration for individuals experiencing issues with mental health, homelessness, substance abuse, and parenting issues. Partin is a behavioral health co-responder in Boulder County.
Pat Murphy reported that Boulder County’s moratorium on residential size increase will impact smaller homes and will therefore lower property values as owners cannot renovate or increase garage sizes.
It was reported that the continued work toward improving the NCA’s social media presence is limited without as many events as there were in the summer. Goals for the end of the year include a “get to know your board” feature and asking board members to continue interacting with the accounts on social media rather than personal posting. The social media manager requested updates from board members if they would like events or information pushed on social media platforms.
The Niwot Local Improvement District (LID) approved NCA and Niwot Business Association (NBA) funding for improvements to the entry on the west end of Niwot Road from the Diagonal Highway, including a weed barrier and granite rock. The NCA and the NBA are also in discussion regarding improvements to the fence along that area.
Area representatives provided reports, or lack thereof, regarding their respective neighborhoods. The most notable reports came from Area 3 regarding continued discussion about the new NHS scoreboard, Area 4 reporting new trail closures, and Area 8 highlighting reports from the Boulder County Sheriff about recent break-ins.
NCA members are asked to contact area representatives at niwot.org under the contact tab for any matters of concern.
