All Local, All The Time
The plat of Niwot was recorded on March 30, 1875 by Ambrose Murray and Porter Hinman laying out the streets, alleys and lots of what is now known as Old Town Niwot.
March 30, 2025, will mark 150 years since the founding of the community, and the Niwot Local Improvement District (LID) has asked community organizations to begin planning a year-long celebration of the community's first 150 years.
Sparked by a discussion in October of plans by the Niwot Historical Society to publish a book chronicling Niwot's 150-year anniversary, at the LID meeting in November, LID members asked the Niwot Business Association (NBA), the Niwot Community Association (NCA), the Niwot Historical Society, and the Niwot Cultural Arts Association (NCAA) to collaborate on forming an organizing committee.
Former LID chair Laura Skaggs, who has also served on the NCA board as well as the Niwot Historical Society board, has agreed to chair the committee. The LID offered funding for the creation of a logo celebrating Niwot's first 150 years. Others who were asked to join the committee include Jeff Knight from the NCA, Kathy Koehler from the Niwot Historical Society, Angie Miltersen from the NBA, Mary Coonce from the LID and NBA, Chris Crandell from the Left Hand Grange No. 9, and Biff Warren from the NCAA.
Each event funded by the LID in 2025 will be asked to include the 150-year logo in promotional material, and to look for ways to celebrate and honor the history of the community. One suggestion was to create a time capsule with artifacts, letters, and other mementos that would be opened in 25 years.
Other ideas from the community are welcome.
