All Local, All The Time
Niwot High School will hold its third annual NHS Art Show hosted by NHS Boosters Music, Performance and Art, a division of the Niwot High School Boosters, a parent-run organization supporting Niwot High School.
The art show is open to the public and will showcase students' artistic talent from Dec. 4 through Dec. 12 during each music-based performing arts' December showcase. Artwork by students at NHS, Sunset Middle School, Burlington Elementary School, and Niwot Elementary School will be on display.
The student art show will kick off on Dec. 4 during the "Winter Jazz in the Rockies" concert in the NHS Commons area starting at 7 p.m.
Artwork will be on display Dec. 6 during the Musical Theater Revue at 6 p.m. in the NHS auditorium. Following that, opportunities to experience live music and student artwork together will be held on Dec. 10 at the Winter Choir Concert, Dec. 11 at the "Symphony of the Solstice" concert featuring all orchestra ensembles including the mariachi ensemble, and Dec. 12 at the NHS Bands "Evergreen" concert. All concerts start at 6 p.m. and all will be held in the NHS auditorium.
New this year is the Art Gala on Monday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the NHS Commons. The Art Gala is a unique opportunity to showcase student artwork and receive professional feedback. "Unlike music students, who have multiple concert opportunities throughout the year," said Lydia Moy, organizer for the art show along with Niwot Boosters Music, Performance, and Art (MPA), "visual arts students have fewer chances to showcase their work."
The Art Gala is not only open to the public as an opportunity for students to display their art, but it also invites students to engage with invited professionals from the local art community to receive critiques on their work and learn how to pursue professional artistry.
Students also have the opportunity to win awards in various categories for their work, such as "Best in Show," "Best Technical," "Best Concept," "People's Choice," "Cougar Artist," and "Rising Star."
Voting is open to all from Dec. 4 through Dec. 10, with winners announced on Dec. 11 at the "Symphony of the Solstice" concert. The awards ceremony will be held during intermission on Dec. 12 during the "Evergreen" band concert.
Art submissions are due by Dec. 2 at noon in the NHS art rooms #640 and 645. Sign up for an art critique may be made with art teacher Crystal Hinds in the art rooms.
Students from Sunset Middle School, Burlington Elementary School, and Niwot Elementary School should contact the art teachers at their respective schools for more information.
