All Local, All The Time
In a fitting conclusion to a remarkable season, Niwot High School's gymnastics program has captured numerous honors in the 2024 CHSAA All-State selections, following the Cougars' triumphant Class 4A team championship victory.
Sophomore sensation Genevieve Saunders, who led the Cougars to their first state title since 2018, was named Gymnast of the Year. Saunders' outstanding performance at the state championships, including a season-high 9.700 on beam and a second-place 9.500 on floor, helped her secure the individual all-around title with a score of 37.100.
Under the guidance of Coach of the Year Marisa Purcell, the Cougars demonstrated exceptional depth, placing three athletes on the First Team All-State roster: Maeve Flentie, Lily O'Neill, and Saunders. O'Neill's impressive showing earned her a third-place tie in the all-around competition with a score of 36.525. Cloe Pereira earned Second Team All-State recognition, while Jaden Fletemeyer, Isabella Foster, Kylee Schlepp, and Sienna Wood received Honorable Mention All-State honors.
The All-State selections were determined by state championship performance, with the top four finishers in individual events earning first-team honors, the next four claiming second-team spots, and remaining finalists receiving honorable mention recognition.
Niwot's championship victory at Thornton High School was decisive, with the team posting a score of 180.75. The Cougars' performance included meet-high scores of 44.825 on bars and 44.875 on beam, complemented by strong showings in vault (45.275) and floor (46.000). The victory marks Niwot's seventh team title, placing them third in the state in all-time state championships.
