All Local, All The Time
The "Pride of Niwot" Cougar Marching Band and Silver Creek High School Marching Band once again marched and performed together in the Longmont Lights Parade on Dec. 14 as the re-formed "Ni-Creek-Wot" combined marching band.
Band members refer to this particular parade as their "crossover episode" as students from both schools make new friends, see old friends, and dress up in outrageous holiday lights with ugly sweaters. Together they performed "Feliz Navidad" down Main Street in Longmont.
Awards were given after the parade to the two most "dressed-up" band members. Three candidates were chosen from each school and voted on by members of the other school's band. Voting consisted of cheering and applause as to who was most festively dressed.
The most festively dressed winners were Jonathan Cary, drumline member at NHS, and Zach Kaufman, tuba player at SCHS.
As of last year, the SCHS Unified Drumline has also participated in the parade, providing students with special needs an opportunity to perform as a part of the larger ensemble for the public.
With this lighthearted, spirited event, both schools' marching band programs officially come to a close marking the end of a semester characterized by hard work and dedication.
