All Local, All The Time
The third annual Niwot High School Art Show began Dec. 6, with winners announced on Dec. 11, and an awards ceremony on Dec. 12. The NHS Art Show was sponsored by the Niwot High School Music, Performance, and Art division of the Niwot Boosters Club.
The Art Show coincided with the winter concert series, featuring the NHS bands, choirs, orchestras, and the Mariachi Ensemble. This year, a separate Art Gala event on Dec. 9 was dedicated specifically to showcasing the NHS and feeder schools' artists' work. This year's Art Show also included film and production design as a medium.
The Art Gala welcomed local artist Ninel Senatorova, who provided professional insight and feedback to student artists. Any form of art can be competitive. The NHS Art Show was designed to both showcase local student talent and also to encourage students to develop resilience in the face of both praise and constructive criticism, and accept comments about their work with grace and dignity.
Gratitude was expressed to Lydia Moy, Senatorova and to Crystal Hinds, one of Niwot's art teachers, for their support and dedication in making this extraordinary event possible.
Winners of this year's Niwot Art Show are:
Aaron White, NHS sophomore, who won Best in Show for "Moon Spaces," a charcoal drawing, as well as Best Technical for the same piece.
Senior Sebastian Moy's acrylic piece, "Pollution" won Best Concept, as well as People's Choice.
Moy also won Cougar Artist for his graphite drawing, "Paws in Peril."
The Rising Star award went to Clara Awsumb, currently in the seventh grade at Sunset Middle School, for "Cow," an oil painting.
