All Local, All The Time
After an investigation into increased traffic incidents, CDOT has decided to permanently close the Monarch Road intersection at CO 119 (the Diagonal).
CDOT will be holding a public meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Niwot Hall in Niwot (formerly the Grange).
Ongoing road impacts, on a week to week basis, Sunday to Saturday, have been posted on CDOT's website at CO119 Project Road Impacts on the bottom right hand side of the page under "Project Newsletters."
Although CDOT has not been consistent about getting these reports out before Monday each week, they are working to that end. As the work on CO 119 between Longmont and Boulder, including Niwot and Gunbarrel, will be ongoing with constant travel challenges, all residents and especially commuters are encouraged to visit the website for information that can affect their daily commutes.
CDOT encourages commuters to find alternate routes during the construction due to intermittent and unscheduled Traffic Pacing Operations during the entire construction process when crews will move equipment across the highway. During these operations, traffic at a minimum will be slowed if not stopped for minutes of time. CDOT requests that the public "be patient and do not pass the traffic-pacing vehicles - passing them poses a safety risk to all drivers on the road. Thank you for your patience!"
Road impacts listed for December 15-22 as listed by CDOT are as follows:
Monday, Dec. 16 to Friday, Dec. 20, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., along Colorado Highway 119/Diagonal Highway between Colorado Highway 157/Foothills Parkway and South Pratt Parkway - various shoulder closures to install in-ground construction signs. Monday, Dec. 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on northbound CO 119/Diagonal Highway, between Mineral and Monarch Roads - various single lane closures for traffic striping. Tuesday, Dec. 17 to Wednesday, Dec. 18, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., on northbound CO 119/Diagonal Highway, between Mineral and Monarch Roads - an overnight single, right lane and turn lane closure. Friday, Dec. 20 at 9 p.m. until Monday, Dec. 23 at 5 a.m., eastbound Jay Road at CO 119/Diagonal Highway will be closed to all modes of transportation. Westbound Jay Road will remain open. This closure is required for crews to begin waterline installation work. There is a separate detour for cyclists:
● Eastbound Jay Road traffic will travel south on CO 119, keep right at the CO 157 intersection and turn left onto northbound CO 119 and return to Jay Road.
● Eastbound cyclists will travel south on 47th Street, turn left to travel east on Independence Road and head north on 57th Street to return to Jay Road.
