The Rotary Club of Niwot is hosting the www.niwotrotary.org/page/burns-dinner" target="_blank">Burns Night Dinner for Domestic Violence, to raise funds for Safehouse and Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN) on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. at The Fox Hill Club in Longmont.
The Rotary dinner honors the legacy of Steven Craig, a beloved member of the community who tragically lost his life to domestic violence. Craig, a proud Scot, had dedicated himself to making a tangible difference in the lives of many through his involvement with the Rotary Club. Craig's untimely death left a profound void in the community.
As an active member of the Rotary Club of Niwot, he was known for his relentless dedication and service. He was instrumental in the installation of modern audio-visual equipment in Niwot Hall, and was a regular volunteer at Niwot's summer concert series, Rock & Rails, on the Rotary's tip jar nights. Just weeks before his death, Craig had been elected President-Elect of the club, a role he was eagerly preparing to embrace.
Following Craig's death, Niwot Hall President Jim Dorvee noted, "his passion for volunteerism and love for this community shone through in everything he did....His legacy will continue to inspire us."
Wick Rowland, President of the Rotary Club of Niwot, said, "Steven was very much a Rotarian - almost the ideal type."
The evening promises to blend Scottish tradition with a vital cause. Attendees will enjoy a meal accompanied by traditional Scottish music and poetry, inspired by Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns.
Beyond the cultural festivities, the night aims to shed light on the pressing issue of domestic violence. Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty will deliver a keynote address, providing an overview of domestic violence in Boulder County.
The Burns Dinner serves not only as a tribute to Craig's remarkable life but also as a crucial fundraiser for local domestic violence shelters. With tickets priced at $100, all proceeds will directly benefit Safehouse and SPAN, ensuring that survivors receive essential services and support.
