NCA reflects on 2024

The Niwot Community Association (NCA) held its first monthly meeting of 2025 on Jan. 8. With 2024 officially at an end, board members took the opportunity to reflect on their objectives, finances, and accomplishments from the past year as they look ahead to 2025.

The NCA 2024 objectives included continuation of events, creating a new informational pamphlet, monitoring trails and open space, working with Wildfire Partners for wildfire mitigation, and creating a social media presence. It was reported that all objectives had been met.

Treasurer Terry Larsen provided the Treasurer's Report, noting that the funding from 4th of July was significantly below the income budgeted and expenses were significantly over what was anticipated. The advertising expense for the event was up $800 from 2023. In addition, she said the Boulder County deposit for the event had not yet been refunded.

President David Limbach later addressed the matter, saying, “I contacted Boulder County Special events again about the 4th of July deposit refund, and they said they would get it completed.”

Limbach reported that the NCA and Local Improvement District (LID) have received results of the survey regarding the underpass configuration connecting the CO 119 bikeway median with Niwot, completed on December 16. The results show, among other things, that residents prefer Option 4, which would be built under both the highway and the railroad tracks.

Limbach said there are no updates regarding the sports complex at Niwot High School.

Limbach said the annual pizza dinner hosted by the NCA for both shifts at the Mountain View Fire Rescue for the firefighters at Niwot Station 4 is being planned.

Limbach also said that Niwot Hall proposed storage fees for equipment used by the community. He also reported that the NCA has made a funding request to the LID for additional road crew equipment such as “No Parking” signs, safety vests, and improvements to tables, chairs, and carts.

Limbach also reminded the NCA that the NCA Annual Meeting is approaching in April and solicited ideas, agenda items and guest speaker suggestions.

Limbach said an NCA executive meeting is being scheduled to examine NCA objectives and budget for 2025.

He then reminded the attendees that with the upcoming and ongoing Niwot 150th anniversary celebration, the NCA plans to work closely with the Niwot Business Association (NBA) and the Sesquicentennial Committee to figure ways to integrate the anniversary into events sponsored by the NCA.

An ongoing NCA goal is the improvement of the entry into Niwot at the west end of Niwot Road. The landscaping portion was completed. Limbach reported that the NCA and NBA intend to repair the fence along the north side of the first block of Niwot Road, hopefully with funding by the LID.

Vicky Dorvee is heading the entry improvement effort for the NCA with Euvaldo Valdez, the owner of the commercial property at Niwot Road and Second Avenue. Initial quotes for painting the fence ranged from $7,700 to $23,000, while a new estimate from Ricky’s Painting in Longmont has come in around $3,100.

“I am very familiar with this new contractor,” said Dorvee as Ricky’s Painting’s services have been used for other projects over the years including painting the interior of the Niwot Hall last year. Valdez said he has spoken with both fence owners who reside on the other side of the fence, and though neither have committed, they have expressed interest in contributing half the cost for each of their parts of the fence.

Vice President Julie Breyer, Secretary Cindy Silvis, and Area Representatives did not have information to report, except that Area 4 residents continue to report recent bear sightings.
