Niwot bear relocated to mountains for sleepytime

A bear that has been sighted throughout Niwot for the last few months was captured and relocated from Niwot by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Typically, bears in this region hibernate through the colder months, but this particular bear was seen roaming the area in search of food and sleeping within a hollowed tree. Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds residents to lock up trash and food.

After eluding the officers for several weeks, the bear was safely tranquilized and relocated to a more suitable habitat in the mountains. Officers fired a paint gun at the release site to "reinforce the natural fear and uncomfortable feeling around humans," officials stated in an X post. Perhaps the bear will settle down for a long winter's nap.
