All Local, All The Time

Local author of "Stranger to Myself" at Boulder Bookstore

Niwot area author Jennifer Svendsen discussed her supernatural tale, "Stranger to Myself," at a book signing at The Boulder Bookstore on Feb. 11.

"Stranger to Myself, " published in January 2014, is about a character who lives in Niwot, switching bodies and lives with someone else in New York, trying to figure out her new identity, and coming to terms with her life. Limited copies were available at the signing, but her book is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and at the Boulder Bookstore.

Despite the snowstorm, and difficult road conditions that evening, the event was almost completely full with roughly 27 people in attendance.

Svendsen, a trauma therapist practicing Brainspotting and Parts Work, said that the first 13 pages of her creative writing thesis at the University of Colorado was the inspiration for what would eventually become "Stranger to Myself."

She also talked about her writing process including how she got up and worked on the book every day. "I wouldn't miss a day because the characters wouldn't let me." Svendsen said in her presentation.

Svendsen said Niwot is the main character's town because it holds a lot of meaning for her personally, since she raised her family in Niwot and still lives closeby.

"Niwot holds such a special place in my heart and I'm glad I still live in the area to benefit from all of the amazing offerings that Niwot offers," Svendsen said.
