Niwot's premier summer concert series, Rock & Rails, will be here before long, and the organizing committee is hard at work.
The season starts Thursday, June 5, and runs through Aug. 28, with 13 concerts. Opening acts start at 5 p.m. with the headliners taking the stage at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday night all summer long.
The event, which won the Governor's Award for Best Downtown Event in its 2006 inaugural season, is managed by the Niwot Cultural Arts Association and the Niwot Business Association, with the help of over 100 volunteers.
The concert series returns over $60,000 to the community every summer, with support from its sponsors, the Niwot Local Improvement District and over 20 non-profit organizations which help manage the event. Kathy Trauner coordinates sponsors for the event, and she can be reached at traunerkathy@gmail.com. Sponsorships start at $125 per year.
Each concert features one or two local non-profit organizations, who help with set up and take down. Tip jars at the front gate and at the Depot building, where beer, wine and margaritas are available for purchase, collect funds for the non-profits, all of which support local charitable causes.
Last season over $28,000 was distributed to the 23 non-profits who participated from tip jar donations. Non-profit organizations can apply to be a tip jar recipient by emailing the name, address, contact information and charitable purpose of funds contributed to bwarren@niwotlaw.com by March 25, 2025.
