Cougar girls golf ready to tee off tenth season

As the Niwot High School girls golf team enters its tenth season, the Cougars are preparing for an exciting spring. Head Coach Ed Weaver is back at the helm following an eventful boys golf season, and he will be joined once again by assistant coaches Chad Richert and Byron Rudisill. Rudisill is rejoining the staff after taking last spring season off following the birth of his second child.

Leading the team this season is sophomore Wendy Cheruiyot, who had an impressive freshman campaign. Cheruiyot finished second individually in the league and earned All-State Second Team honors for Class 4A, as well as a spot on the Longs Peak All-Conference Team. She was Niwot's top performer at the state tournament, where she finished 13th.

Another key player to watch is sophomore Addy Murphy, who narrowly missed qualifying for state last season. Junior Emmy Hostelley showed remarkable improvement last season, posting her best score at the R2J Invitational on April 29, 2024, and will look to continue that momentum.

Senior Ayla Schatz brings veteran leadership in her third varsity season, while freshman Sonya Holmes is expected to make an immediate impact.

The Cougars will open their season at the MeadMont Scramble at Twin Peaks Golf Course on Monday, March 10. Weaver is eager to see how the team stacks up against the competition in the Granite Peaks League. "We'll see what happens," he said.

One of the highlights of the season will be Niwot hosting the regional tournament at Twin Peaks, an event Weaver says he is particularly excited about. The Cougars will also compete in seven league tournaments, which will provide valuable tests throughout the season as they push toward their postseason goals.
