All Local, All The Time

First First Friday Art Walk of 2025

Niwot's first first Friday Art Walk of 2025 went off without a hitch this past Friday, March 7, in Old Town Niwot and in Cottonwood Square.

Participating businesses included Osmosis Art and Architecture and Inkberry Books, and the patrons who attended got a first hand look at some wonderful art.

Gene Hayworth, co-owner of Inkberry Books, said, "We had a turnout of about twenty people, so not as many people as in the summer, but the crowd that we did have seemed to be good and really enjoy it. We had a guitarist here, Karen Finch, who provided some nice acoustic music as well and added a lot to the evening."

Hayworth said, "Our featured artist, David Schaldach, was here from 6 to 8 p.m., so a lot of people had questions for him about his process and how he makes his mosaics and fires the tires. Altogether, it was a lovely evening with a good crowd and good conversation."

Schaldach posted a statement about himself and his work where he said, "But throughout the lives I've lived - teacher, musician, arborist, craftsman and artist, I've always been a maker. And the things I make help me remember who I am and why I love the world."

Hayworth always enjoys participating in the First Friday Art Walks and is happy for the opportunity to feature different local artists. He said, "I try to network with artists who come into the store or sometimes people even come to me instead. It's a very community driven effort and we are always looking for more people to feature, so if any artists are interested in showing, they can reach me at the bookstore."

He continued, "It's always good to participate in these events, even with a small crowd, because it brings in people who haven't been to the bookstore before and lets them know we are here."

First Friday Art Walks are great opportunities for the entire family to discover local art and business around Niwot. The next First Friday Art Walk will be held on June 6.
