Cougar swim and dive members earn postseason honors after strong season

The Niwot High School girls swim and dive team wrapped up a successful season with a ninth-place finish at the 4A state championships and multiple individual honors. Led by senior Izzy Fay, the team put in hard work all season, improving meet after meet and finishing strong.

Fay capped off her high school career in the best way possible, winning the 4A state diving championship and earning CHSAA's 4A Diver of the Year award. "It's a recognition of my dedication and commitment to the sport," Fay said. "It was a great way to end my high school diving career on a high note."

"Looking back on the season, my most memorable and rewarding moment was winning state and beating my own personal record score for 11 dives at conference," she added.

The state meet showcased strong performances across the board, helping the Cougars secure a ninth-place team finish.

Freshman Kyrie Moorman placed eighth in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, while junior Ava Altenborg finished 17th in the 100 freestyle.

The 200 freestyle relay team, comprised of senior Devi Burnett, junior Thalia Milam, Altenborg, and Moorman, took eighth, and the same group placed 11th in the 400 freestyle relay.

Along with Fay's first-place diving finish, Milam took sixth, sophomore Evie Saunders placed ninth, and Sienna Wood came in 12th.

Moorman (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Saunders (diving), and Milam (diving) all received 4A All-State Honorable Mention.

Several Cougars were recognized for their contributions with team awards as well. Sophomore Sophia Hayes was named Most Improved, while "High Point" awards went to Burnett (senior), Milam (junior), Camilla Wier-Bigelow (sophomore), and Moorman (freshman).

Head Coach Ella Thramann reflected on the team's progress, emphasizing how much the girls improved throughout the season. "Looking back on the season, I think it paid off with how hard we pushed the girls this season," Thramann said. "We loved being able to celebrate personal records almost every meet. I am really proud of all their accomplishments as well as all the hard work and effort they put into this season."

With several returners, the Cougars are set up for another strong season next winter.
