NHS girls soccer resets after season opener

The Niwot High School girls soccer team's season is officially underway, though the first game did not go their way. The Cougars opened on the road against Mountain Range High School on Tuesday, March 4, falling 2-1 in a nonconference matchup. Head coach Stephen Dimit believes the team's response in the days following was just as important as the result itself.

Sophomore Diya Mehta scored Niwot's lone goal, while goalkeepers Mariah Fletemeyer and Larkyn Young split time in the net. With club soccer commitments and weather disruptions, the Cougars entered the match without much time to prepare together.

"The positives came in the response to the loss," Dimit said. "Practices after the game were very sharp, and the players did a great job refocusing."

Looking ahead, Niwot travel to Wheat Ridge on Tuesday, March 11, to face the Farmers (0-1-1), who are coming off a 3-0 loss to Lakewood High School and a 3-3 draw with George Washington High School. Dimit hopes to see his team establish a clear playing style in the upcoming match.

"We are hoping for a complete reset," he said. "We want to really establish our playing style, both on and off the ball."

After the Wheat Ridge game, the Cougars will open their home schedule against Erie High School on Thursday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m.
