All Local, All The Time

Niwot residents Keffeler and Bondi appointed to county advisory positions

Mike Keffeler

The Boulder County Commissioners appointed Niwot resident Mike Keffeler to the Niwot Local Improvement District Advisory Committee (LID) on March 11. Keffeler will become the Niwot Community Association (NCA) representative on the LID, taking over for Jeff Knight, who resigned due to a family move to Texas.

Keffeler, who grew up in Niwot, has resided in the Morton Heights subdivision in Niwot for many years with his wife Kristin and 3 daughters.. He serves on the NCA board of directors as a director-at-large. Keffeler was the NCA designated applicant for the position.

After graduating from Niwot High School in 1984, Keffeler obtained a degree in geology, but went to work in the field of mechanical design engineering. He worked for Maxtor for many years, and eventually retired from Covidien in Gunbarrel, now known as Medtronic.

Since retiring, he has been able to become more involved in the community he loves. He has also become involved in building high-end acoustic guitars.

"I have a deep passion for the area," Keffeler said. He is interested in creating a better communication path between the NCA and Boulder County as well as the NCA and the St. Vrain Valley School District.

In his role on the LID, Keffeler hopes to use the skills he developed during his work career in bringing people together after sharing viewpoints. "You can have some powerful outcomes," he said.

"I poked around in the Courier to find out more about the LID," Keffeler said after being nominated as the NCA representative. "It's an awesome community. I discovered how much I didn't realize about the NBA (Niwot Business Association), the NCA, the LID, and the role they play in keeping it that way."

The LID meets on the first Tuesday of every month at the Niwot Inn & Spa at 7 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

Lisa Bondi

Lisa Bondi, who was previously a member-at-large of the Boulder County Aging Advisory Council (AAC), was appointed as a Niwot representative to the council on March 11. Bondi has resided in the Johnson Farm subdivision in Niwot for over 30 years.

The AAC serves in an advisory capacity to the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging. According to the Boulder County website, "The AAC helps in the administration and planning of Older Americans Act programs by gathering information and ideas that help to coordinate the delivery of services and by responding effectively to the strengths and needs of older adults throughout Boulder County."

The AAC meets on the first Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon, but there are no meetings during the months of July and December. Meeting locations vary monthly.
