Niwot High School's girls golf team hit the ground swinging this week. With a young team, the Cougars faced their first test of the season, competing in two tournaments and gaining valuable experience as a team.
The week started on Monday, March 10, with the MeadMont Scramble at the Twin Peaks Golf Course. Junior Emmy Hostelley, freshman Sonya Homes, and sophomores Wendy Cheruiyot and Adison Murphy got some early-season reps.
However, the real test was Saturday's Chilly Chili Invitational at the Eagle Trace Golf Club, hosted by Broomfield High School. The field included teams from all across the metro area, with Cherry Creek High School (241) taking first place, followed by Valor Christian High School (251) and Columbine High School (267). Niwot's two teams finished eighth (278) and 23rd (354), with some solid individual performances.
Niwot 1 was led by Cheruiyot, who shot an 86 to place 13th overall. Homes posted a respectable high school debut, finishing 20th with an 89. Murphy (103) and Hostelley (108) rounded out the team scoring.
Niwot 2 featured seniors Sonia Bingham (109), Ayla Schatz (119), and Gabriella Gravelle (126), with sophomore Reagan Lachky (133) rounding out the lineup.
With the season now underway, the Cougars will look to build on their first week's experience as they prepare for tournaments on March 24 and March 25 at Twin Peaks Golf Course and Quail Dunes Golf Course, respectively.
