Cougar girls golf teams compete at Granite Peaks tournament

The Niwot High School girls golf teams competed in their third tournament of the season this week. Eight athletes represented Niwot at the Granite Peaks League Tournament, with its two teams securing fourth place in the top division, and third place in the lower division.

The group headed to Twin Peaks Golf Course on Monday, March 24 for its first Granite Peaks League tournament, hosted by Longmont High School. Coach Ed Weaver reflected on the competition, saying, "We're playing a lot better than we started."

Niwot's team 1 finished with 379 points to earn fourth place out of 12 schools. The field was led by Holy Family High School in first place (338), Erie High School in second place (363), and Broomfield High School in third place (376).

Sophomore Wendy Cheruiyot furthered her successful start to the season with a score of 87, leading Niwot and placing ninth overall. Junior Emmy Hostelley (92) followed in 16th place. Sophomore Adison Murphy (99), freshman Sonya Holmes (101), and senior Ayla Schatz (102) wrapped up the scoring for Niwot.

Niwot's team 2 totalled 214 points to take third place in its level of competition, led by Erie in first place (189) and Holy Family in second place (193). Seniors Sonia Bingham (103) and Gabriella Gravelle (111) earned sixth place and ninth place, respectively, and sophomore Reagan Lachky (126) took 15th place.

Both teams will head to Fort Lupton's Coyote Creek Golf Course on Thursday, April 3 to compete against Frederick High School. "I'm feeling good about the rest of the season," Weaver stated. "I'm excited."
