The Niwot High School girls basketball team celebrated their end-of-season awards on March 28 at a banquet held at the Rocky Mountain Christian Church.
Freshman Alaina Loomis was named Second Team All-Conference in the Granite Peaks League, and was also selected to play on the Granite Peaks All-Star team. Senior Jiselle Sales also received Second Team All-Conference honors in the Granite Peaks League.
The Senior Leader of the Year award was presented to Peyton Rhodes.
Players of the Year honors from each class went to senior Hadie Adams, junior Payton Johnson, sophomore Diya Mehta, and freshman Alaina Loomis.
Coach Todd Trobaugh presented Cyrena Allen with the Cougar Pride Award, Peyton Rhodes earned the Cougar Service Award, and Jiselle Sales earned the Cougar Heart Award.
Most Valuable Player awards were also presented to players at each level. In C Team, the MVP was Sadie McClung, the MVP for the junior varsity was LilyRae Bernstein, and the varsity MVP was Thalia Almaraz.
Other awards included Lilah Schlarb for the Most Improved Player, and Alaina Loomis for Rookie of the Year.
"We developed and instituted these awards this season because for more than a decade, Niwot girls basketball has lacked a consistent, effective culture and a winning attitude," Trobaugh said. "We wanted to start building a tradition with annual awards that would enhance our culture and help Niwot girls basketball move from a middle-school mindset to a high-school mindset. Along with the first playoff appearance since 2014, developing traditions such as this will help Niwot girls basketball become a solid, winning program."
