ROAD CLOSURES

Monday, April 21, at 7 a.m. traffic signal work will cause various right shoulder closures on southbound CO 119 between Jay Road and Hover Street. These closures will continue until Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. asphalt work will cause single lane closures on southbound CO 119 between Monarch Road and IBM Drive until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23. Tuesday April 22 at 9 p.m. until April 23 at midnight, there will be a single lane closure on eastbound Niwot Road, west of southbound CO 119. One eastbound lane will remain open.

Monday, April 28 at 9 p.m. through Wednesday May 7 at 5 a.m., the Niwot Median Full Closure begins. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) website continues to show the detour for southbound CO 119 from Niwot Road with a turnaround at Airport Road. However, turn-arounds may also be possible at 83rd Street or Oxford Road unless the median is closed there, too.

Suggested detours from CDOT are as follows and on the accompanying map:

Westbound traffic will head north on CO 119/Diagonal Highway, use Airport Road to get on southbound CO 119/Diagonal Highway, and exit onto westbound Niwot Road.

Eastbound traffic will head south on CO 119/Diagonal Highway, turn left onto Colorado Highway 52, and turn left onto northbound 79th Street to return to eastbound Niwot Road.

TRAIL NEWS

The entire Sawmills Trail system will remain closed until at least the end of 2025 during major infrastructure enhancement.

As reported in the last edition of the Courier, the area around the Vesper Trail is closed into October 2025 due to burrowing owl mating season, but the Vesper Trail itself is open during this time. The trail must, however, be accessed from the official trailheads. People seen walking their dogs from the corner of 75th Street and Lookout Road into this area which covers both sides of Lookout Road may find themselves liable for fines of hundreds of dollars. Please see the Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks wildlife closure website or the OSMP trail regulations website for more information.

Based on the accuracy of previous warnings of road closures at 19 and Niwot Road, this information is about as reliable as a duck.
