Boys volleyball aces five wins

The Niwot High School boys volleyball team is on a roll this spring, stacking up five wins in the last six matches, including dominant performances against Boulder High School, Arvada West High School, Ponderosa High School, Douglas County High School and Denver East High School.

The Cougars currently hold a 13-7 overall record and are 5-1 in league play.

On April 15, Niwot won its match against Boulder, winning 25-10, 25-12, 25-12. Junior Ethan Husk led with a .900 hitting percentage, senior Cameron Churchich maintained a perfect serve percentage, junior Charlie Kirtland recorded 15 digs, and junior Jasper Helgans added 32 assists and 69 ball-handling attempts to pace the offense.

The Cougars followed that with a 3-0 win over Arvada West on April 17, taking the sets 25-18, 25-18, 25-23. After those back-to-back victories, Niwot faced a narrow 2-0 loss to Castle View High School on April 19, dropping both sets 25-23.

The team quickly bounced back, however, with a 2-0 sweep over Ponderosa, winning 25-13 and 25-20. They carried that momentum into their match against Douglas County, claiming another 2-0 win with set scores of 25-20 and 25-19. In a straight-set win over Denver East, Niwot took the match 2-0. The Cougars dominated the match, with strong performances across both sets.

With just a few matches left in the season, the Niwot boys volleyball team looks to keep its momentum and energy going to finish the season on a high note. Up next, the Cougars will travel to face Legacy High School on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Legacy, followed by a matchup against Fossil Ridge High School on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Fossil Ridge.
